AdminHistorySamuel Fox established the wire-drawing business at Stocksbridge in 1842. The beginning of the firm's expansion can be dated from 1848 with the first recorded sale of umbrella frames. In 1852 he took out a patent for 'Paragon' umbrella frames. In 1860, steel making was introduced at Stocksbridge. Samuel Fox died on 25 Feb 1887.

In 1918 Samuel Fox and Company Limited became part of United Steel Companies Limited.
