DescriptionIncludes letters from Mr Barnes, the minister Rev. C. J. Street and Edward Bramley (secretary to the trustees of the chapel) regarding the matter, May - Jul 1915. Also includes newspaper cutting of letter from Mr Gebhardt in which he thanks the police for their protection following demonstration outside his pork shop (fuelled by anti-German sentiments) and affirms his loyalty to his adopted country, 14 May 1915. Also includes later letter from Dr T. Gumpert addressed to Peter Godfrey thanking him for sending him the correspondence, and referring to his own father’s experiences of discrimination during the First World War on account of his German origins, 23 Jul 1984.
