Administrative HistoryWilliam Robert Price (known to his friends as Robin Price) was born in 1886 and attended Harrow School and Trinity College Cambridge, from which he graduated with a BA in Natural Sciences, with a particular focus on Botany, in 1908. In 1909 he commenced work as a Temporary Assistant in Kew's Herbarium, where he met Henry John Elwes. In Dec 1911 Elwes and Price travelled to Formosa to collect plant specimens for the Herbarium at Kew. After Elwes returned to England, Price proceeded to Japan on 31 Dec 1912, also visiting Korea and China. He returned to England in May 1913. Price served in France as a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery during the First World War. In 1920 he married and moved to the Cotswolds, and he spent the Second World War in the Home Guard. In 1946 he returned to London, and on the death of his wife in 1965 he resumed travel and plant collecting. He had previously worked as an accountant. In Mar 1967 Price made a return visit to Taiwan, where he lectured at the Biology Department of Taiwan Normal University. He travelled widely throughout eastern Asia on this trip, including a visit to Jesselton (now Kota Kinablu) in Malaysia, where he searched for Rafflesia. In 1968 Price returned to Kew, where he worked both in the Herbarium and in the Library with the Illustrations collection. Price was an honorary member of the Linnean Society. He died on 31 Jul 1975
