AdminHistory | The Clothworkers' Company has been committed to supporting the endangered craft of bookbinding since 2005, and its support reaches those as all stages of the craft from cradle to grave.
We are a Founding Partner of the Queen's Bindery Apprenticeship Scheme (QBAS) based at The Royal Bindery in Windsor; we have recently funded Designer Bookbinders' Transferring Design programme to provide bespoke introductory training in bookbinding to students in art colleges and universities within the UK; we fund bursaries for Designer Bookbinders and Society of Bookbinders joint masterclasses and we sponsor prizes in the prestigious Open Choice category at the Designer Bookbinders' (now) Biennial Competition.
The Company began commissioning designer bindings in 2008, in order to grow a collection representative of the best of British bookbinding, providing important commissions to established craftsmen and Fellows of Designer Bookbinders. We commission on average two new bookbindings per year. |
