TitleBig sheet and bundle, England versus France, Twickenham, 20 April 1974
DescriptionThe big sheet has notes on the reverse concerning the game and highlighting that it raised money, through the R.F.U. Charitable Trust, for the dependants of the rugby men who died in the Turkish Airlines Flight 981 crash outside Paris, France, also known as the Ermenonville air disaster, 3 March 1974, killing all 346 people on board including English rugby supporters returning from the France v England Five Nations match at Parc des Princes the day before (which McLaren had not covered; instead being at Lansdowne Road, Dublin, for Ireland v Scotland match - see BML/1/3/19).
It is accompanied by:
- Programme.
- Notes, including an introduction to the match and a description of the score.
- Account of Bill McLaren's expenses.
- Cuttings from The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Times and other unidentified newspapers covering the match and other rugby news of the period.
NB: this game is commonly regarded as hosting the first officially recognised 'streak' at a major British sporting event - when twenty-five-year-old Australian Michael O'Brien ran out at an England v France Rugby Union match, Bill McLaren notes that the policeman "put helmet over offending part".

The score of this R.F.U. Charitable Trust match was England 7 - 26 France. The big sheet records:
