ActivityEducated Belvedere College. Wing, played for x, Ireland (1955-1970, 29 caps, 12 points) and British and Irish Lions (1955-1959, 10 caps, 18 points). Later came up with the Kerrygold brand and became chairman and CEO of Heinz foods. In 1973 took control of Independent Newspapers, publisher of the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent and Evening Herald. Eventually an unsuccessful takeover of Waterford Wedgwood china and glass company into which O'Reilly and his brother-in-law were estimated to have sunk £400m before it went into receivership in 2009. This bankrupted him personally. O'Reilly was knighted in the 2001 New Year Honours.
