His debut came at Murrayfeld, 4 February 1967, as Wales opened the defence of their title against the Scots with six new caps: John O’Shea, Brian Rees, Billy Mainwaring, John Taylor, Billy Hullin and Billy Raybould.
Educated Neath Grammar School, University College Aberystwyth, Christ’s College Cambridge and St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. Later a general surgeon at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. In 2000, he was awarded an OBE for services to medicine. In 2008 he became High Sheriff of South Glamorgan.
