AdminHistoryCharles Theodore Günther (1834 - 1911) was born near Stuttgart on 28 May 1834 to to Friedrich Gotthilf Günther (1800–1835?) and Eleanore Louise née Nagle (1806–1899). His older brother was Albert Karl Ludwig Gotthilf Günther (also known as Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Günther) (1830 – 1914). C.T. Günther was educated at the Gmnasium at Ludwig Etherhart before proceeding to the University of Tübingen where he took his M.D. in 1857. He then went to England and became tutor in the family of Lord John Russell for two years, before he had to return to Germany to take up military duty. On his return he was appointed physician to the Duke of Albany, then Prince Leopold. He remained with the Duke until the death of the Prince Consort in 1862. In 1863 he settled at Hampton Wick where he practiced medicine for over forty years. He married Florence Georgina Thompson, niece of the late Rev. F.J.C. De Crespigny, vicar of Hampton Wick, and they had four sons and one daughter. He died on 6 October 1911 at Hampton Wick.
