TitleRemarks on birds - W. Markwick
AdminHistoryWilliam Markwick (1739 - 1813) was born in Battle, Sussex, in 1739. He became an Associate of the Linnean Society on 16 December 1788, and a Fellow on 15 May 1792. He kept a natural history diary c. 1768-1776 entitled 'Calendar of Flora'. He communicated a paper on 'Plantae Sussexiensis' to the Linnean Society on 16 November 1802. He also published 'Aves Sussexiensis: or, a catalogue of Birds found in the County of Sussex, with Remarks' in the Transactions of the Linnean Society in 1798. The notes in this manuscript are supplementary to his 1798 publication. He married Miss Eversfield, of Denne, and of the Grove House, Hollington, near Battle. Markwick later took the name of Eversfield. He died on 6 April 1813.
DescriptionUnpublished manuscript by William Markwick entitled 'Remarks on Birds' containing systematic and descriptive notes on birds, including Waders; Thrushes, Swallows and Goatsucker, and Dippers. Also includes 37 water-colour drawings and various pencil figures to illustrate the text. Birds depicted include:
