TitleSir William Watson, London, to Richard Pulteney
DescriptionThanks for letter and box of specimens. He has given the grasses to Mr Hudson except the specimens not in his own collection. Hudson has never collected Lolium album and Watson only once on a visit to Lord Macclesfield in Oxfordshire. A local apothecary and botanist told him that Herba Paris and Pyrola grow abundantly in woods near Watlington. He is glad that his advice on Pulteney's patient's Colica Pictorum proved useful. He will give Mr Miller seeds of Stipa pennata, keeping a couple for the garden of the British Museum. He has given Pulteney's extract of Linnæus's Systema Naturae to Mr Urban [for the Gentleman's Magazine]. It was read to the Royal Society but not printed, being only an account of a book. Hopes that the addition of midwifery to his practice has improved Pulteney's expectations and prospects in Leicester. He expects some species of the rarer northern plants from Mr Bolton, a friend of Thomas Knowlton, for the British Museum garden. He adds a list of some of them.
