TitleRichard Pulteney, Blandford, to Sir William Watson
DescriptionFulsome thanks for Watson's kindness as a friend and benefactor. He has written to General Pulteney and hopes that Watson will read the copy and judge the diction and sentiment in it. He has some regret at not spending more money on his research into his ancestry and connection with Lord Bath's family but was too depressed when in Leicestershire to summon up enough resolution. Encloses a letter from Dr Stonehouse [Stonhouse] which he hopes Watson will show to the General as it may well make a favourable impression on him. Dr Stonehouse [Stonhouse], once a neighbour in Leics. is now in Exeter and has recommended Pulteney to Dr Moysey and Dr Andrews. Dr Huxham has written to offer Pulteney his support.

The treatment of Mr Newton's maid, who had a dangerous inflammation of the bowels, has been successful; he hopes this will enhance his status. The letter forwarded by Watson was indeed from Mr Hawkeen who had enclosed a drawing of the Quinquina and a transcript of [C.M.] Condamine's description of it. He has been introduced to Mr Harris and Mr and Mrs Compton, visiting Mr Kingston's garden in Blandford, to whom Watson had recommended Pulteney.
