Description | Notebook containing a catalogue of plants by William Withering Jnr., which accompanies an album of watercolour drawings [MS/55].
The preface, which is dated The Larches, December 1802 and addressed to the Secretary of the Linnean Society, states: "the plants enumerated were chiefly ascertained by my late father and I have annexed a few figures of the doubtful or rarer ones taken from living specimens". He also states that the catalogue contains 'the names of several plants unnoticed b Grisley or other writers on the Flora of Portugal, I am induced to believe it may not be entirely unworthy the attention of the Linnean Society'. Signed W. Withering. |
