TitleAnnotated sale catalogue for portion of Linnean Society collections - [R. Kippist]
AdminHistoryRichard Kippist (1812-1882) was a botanist and librarian of the Linnean Society.

Kippist was born on 11 June 1812 at Stoke Newington, London. His first work experience was working in the office architect and botanist, Joseph Woods. They travelled together for research in the preparation of Woods' 'Tourist's Flora'. After Woods' retirement to Lewes in 1830, Kippist entered the service of the Linnean Society, then housed at the residence of Sir Joseph Banks in Soho Square. Working with the librarian, David Don, Kippist was involved in the distribution of Dr Wallich's plants. Following Don's death in 1842, Kippist was chosen as his replacement. He was an Associate of the Linnean Society, and of the Royal Botanic Society, Regent's Park. He was also one of the earliest members of the Microscopical Society

After many years of ill health, Kippist retired in 1881 and received a full pension, which was specially granted to him by the Council of the Linnean Society. Dr Murie took over the role of librarian at the Society. Kippist died on 14 January 1882 in Chelsea, and is buried at Brompton Cemetery.
