TitleCorrespondence of James Murie (part 2)
AdminHistoryJames Murie (1832-1925) was a comparative anatomist.

Murie was born on 30 March 1832 and received an education for the medical profession at Glasgow University, specialising in zoology. He worked at the Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, and later the Royal College of Surgeons, London, as an assistant in the Museum and worked with Professor J.E. Queckett. He travelled widely in Europe, sometimes working as ship's surgeon. He also joined the disastrous expedition to the White Nile under Consul John Petherick where Murie managed to collect much valuable zoological material, particularly fish. Murie worked with the local fisheries. He died in 1925.
