ActivityMA Oxford 1766. FRS 1781. Invited to be a founder member of the Linnean Society, but died before the first meeting. Curate and lecturer, Colnbrook, Middlesex, 1766. Chaplain to Margaret Cavendish-Bentinck (1715-1785), wife of 2nd Duke of Portland, and managed her plant and shell collections at Bulstrode Park, Buckinghamshire, 1767-1785. Rector of Shalden, Hampshire, 1765-1777, rector of Gotham, Sutton-Cum-Lound, and Scrooby, Nottinghamshire, 1777. Travelled with Thomas Pennant in Scotland, 1772, with Sir Joseph Banks in Wales, 1773, and in Devon and Cornwall, 1774.
