Description | The 'List of Whole-time awards in Scientific Research' was prepared by the Secretary to the 1851 Commission primarily for the use of the Commissioners. It did not include awards of value less than £150 p.a. (as in 1935) nor scholarships for special branches of medicine or veterinary science. Nor did it include awards offered by Universities and scientific societies exclusively for the benefit of their own members, nor scholarships for which British subjects were not eligible. It did, however, include a few of the more important fellowships which were available for British subjects although administered by foreign foundations. |
