The Chief of the Staff is the second-in-command of The Salvation Army internationally. The Chief of the Staff's Office's function is to implement the General's policy decisions and effect liaison between departments.
The Chief of the Staff's Office is closely linked to the International Headquarters Secretary's Department and its International Secretaries whose function it is to facilitate administration relating to the General. The Chief of the Staff's Office is also closely linked to The General's Office, which directs Salvation Army operations throughout the world through the administrative departments of International Headquarters.
Bramwell Booth was the first Chief of The Staff, holding the post until he became General upon his father's death in 1912. All pre-1912 records from the Chief of the Staff's Office can be found in Bramwell Booth's personal papers (PBB).
