Description<head>Scope and Content</head><p>Copy correspondence of Mayor of Sheffield and the Duke and his advisers proposing purchase by the Corporation, 1898.</p><p>Several plans of market premises, 1894 (one indicates site of castle); report on premises by M. J. Ellison, 1894.</p><p>Sale plan and particulars: properties near the market for sale Dec. 1888.</p><p>Mr. John Dixon's opinion as to the legal position with regard to sale of market rights, 1 Nov. 1898. (Only the person entitled to the rents and profits of the Castle and lordship of Sheffield had the right to levy market rents and tolls). And a further statement of Dixon's on this matter.</p><p>Markets Bill, amended Bill, Petition of Duke against the Bill, Act, etc., (All printed), and various papers including instructions to Mr. Dixon, concerned with question of separating market rights from dependence on possession of the Castle and Lordship. 1898-99.</p><p>Rees &amp; Frere's account with the Duke for expenses in opposition to the Sheffield Markets Bill, 1899.</p><p>Plans (ground and first floor and basement) of the Corn Exchange building and list of those portions it is suggested be re-let to the Duke by the Corporation.</p>
