AdminHistory | Joseph Trippett & Son, manufacturers of Steel Castings was established at the Standard Steel Castings Works, 81 Coleridge Road, Attercliffe, Sheffield in 1891. Joseph Trippett resided on Earl Marshal Road during this period. Within a contemporary trade directory the company is listed as a Manufacturer of every description of best crucible steel castings for engineering, collieries etc. Both Joseph Trippett and his son, John Trippett had several years experience in the industry before setting up their own Company. Previously Joseph had been foreman pattern maker for Messrs Vickers & Sons and for Hadfield Steel Foundry Company, finally becoming manager (for seven years) of Messrs Sybry, Searles & Company Sheffield.
Joseph Trippett (Steel Casting Manufacturer and Ex-President of the Pitsmoor Bowling Club) died on 15th January 1911, leaving his wife, Mary Ann Trippett and son John Trippett.
On 18th July 1935 Joseph Trippett & Sons became a company limited by Shares. The major subscribers were Charles Waring Verity (of 145 White Lee Road, Swinton, Nr Rotherham) and Alfred Anderson Verity (of 92 Knowle Lane, Ecclesall, Sheffield) who had purchased the company at around this time.
The Verity Brothers sold the Standard Steel Casting Works to Messrs Brown Bayley's Steel Works Limited and business and goodwill to Messrs Robert Styring & Sons in May 1941, in all probability, the business had been damaged by enemy activity during the Blitz of Sheffield in December 1940. |
