AdminHistory | The Employment Committee was established in May 1981 with the 'responsibility for creating and retaining jobs in the city'. It took over the responsibilities of the Industrial Development and Promotion Committee as far as they related to industrial development (see CA-MIN/119 (3 Jun 1981)).
At the outset the Employment Committee had the following sub-committees and panels: Grants Panel, Employment Forum.
By 1984 it also had an Equal Opportunities Panel, a Training and Development Panel and an Employment Proposals Panel.
In the late 1980s sub-committees and panels of this committee included: Training Panel, Research & Resources Panel, Economic Development sub-committee, Unemployment Panel, Staffing sub-committee, Employment Strategy sub-committee.
The committee was represented on the Sheffield Industrial Development Advisory Committee (SIDAC) (along with Members of Parliament, City Council officers and representatives from other agencies). Copy minutes of the SIDAC are included in the minutes of the Employment Committee.
From July 1986 the minutes were no longer bound in volumes but filed in lever arch files. |
