AdminHistory | The Improvement Committee was appointed in 1864. In 1906 part of its powers were transferred to the Estates Committee, leaving the Improvement Committee responsible only for estates due for improvement but not yet demolished. Its main functions included overseeing the purchase of properties for special or general widening, enlarging, opening, or improvement of any street; it was also involved in making new streets, prescribing frontage lines of buildings, and for providing and taking charge of the public clocks. |
