TitleSpecial Committee regarding Housing Administration Draft Minutes and Papers
DescriptionThis special committee was created after a suggestion made by the Estates Committee that the current method of administration of housing matters needed to be investigated. The minutes state that "The work of providing new houses is distributed over several Departments of the Corporation whereas management is limited to two Departments, both of which have other important duties to discharge. When the work of management was transferred to the Estates Surveyor the Corporation owned 9, 111 houses, to-day they own 17, 638."

The Special Committee recommended that a separate Housing Department be created under the responsibility of a General Manager. The papers include a list of applicants for the post and give full details of those selected for interviews. A Mr V. M. Huges former Housing Director of Bolton [Lancashire] was appointed.
