| Description | These valuations were evidently prepared for rating purposes by Charles R. Lowe and Co., Chartered Surveyors and Rating Valuers, Wharncliffe House, Bank Street, Sheffield and submitted to the City of Sheffield Valuation Department.
Unless otherwise stated, the file for each cinema / picture house / theatre includes the following: summary valuation sheet (including name of occupier and owner, timings of weekly performances, details of seating, admission prices, etc.), layout or block plan of premises with accompanying schedule recording brief descriptions of each part of the building, including construction details, dimensions, etc.
For the first 37 files in the series below, the summary valuation sheets in each file carry the date 31 Mar 1933 and so the papers in the file are assumed to date from around this period. The latter three files in the series relate to premises which opened at later dates and which carry later dates on the respective valuation summary sheets (and so the papers in these files are again are assumed to date from these respective later periods).
Note: the nature of the plans in each file vary - many are simple block plans of premises with different areas numbered which correspond to an accompanying schedule but others show more detailed layouts of the interiors of premises. |
