Description | The Technical School of Art started out as the School of Design in 1843. It became the School of Art in 1857 and the Technical School of Art from 23 December 1901 when management of the school was taken over by the Sheffield Corporation's Education Department. It became a College of Arts and Crafts in 1926 and finally the School of Art and Design which then merged with Sheffield's College of Technology in 1969 to form Sheffield Polytechnic (later Sheffield Hallam University). |
