Description | Meetings of this Working Party commenced in 1974. It met originally as an ad hoc working party, the Higher Technician Education Working Party. The Working Party was established by the Chief Education Officer to develop a strategy for Higher Technician Education. In 1974, sub-groups were: (Sector A - Engineering, Sector B - Construction, Sector C Science Based). The aim of the Sheffield Council was to develop educational programmes at a local level for submission to the Technician Education Council (TEC) and the Business Education Council (BEC). The Sheffield Council comprised officers from the Education Department, and representatives from the Polytechnic and five colleges of further education. The Technician Education Council was established in 1973 by the Secretary of State for Education and Science as a result of the Report of the Committee on Technician Courses and Examinations (Haslegrave Report), which appeared in 1969. The new TEC awards replaced the former ONC, OND, RNC and HND. The file also relates to BEC programmes. The Business Education Council was set up in 1974 as a result of the Haslegrave Report. |
