AdminHistoryStocksbridge Local Board of Health was created under the powers of the Public Health Act of 1848 and the Local Government Act of 1858. In 1894 Stocksbridge became an Urban District under the Local Government Act of that year. As such it had responsibility for public health, water supply, housing, highways, leisure service, etc.

Stocksbridge Urban District Council was abolished in 1974 and the area then came within the jurisdiction of Sheffield City Council.
