TitleFreehold residence known as 'The Woodlands' [later Parkhead House and Parkhead Hall], Park Head, Ecclesall
DescriptionConstructed in 1864-1865 by the architect John Brightmore Mitchell-Withers (1838-1894) for his own use. Described as a stone-built house in the Domestic Gothic Style with pleasure grounds, kitchen gardens, orchard, shrubberies, stables etc. covering 7.25 acres.

John Mitchell-Withers Senior died in 1898, the house was sold to Robert Hadfield, the managing director of Hadfields. The Woodlands acquired a new name, Parkhead House. It was later purchased by Sheffield Corporation which had been looking for a house which could be used for judges’ lodgings when the Assize Courts opened in Sheffield. When Parkhead House was put on the market in November 1938 it seemed ideal for this purpose. It was purchased in 1939 for £6,750 but probably as a result of the Second World War these plans were shelved and in 1948 it was adopted and opened as a house for thirty-five elderly men.
