TitleSouthey Green Nursery First and Middle School
AdminHistoryThe Southey Green Council School was opened in November 1931 and consisted of a Senior Mixed Department and a Junior Mixed Department. In the first few years after the opening of the school, pressure was placed on the existing accommodation because of the development of neighbouring housing estates. This also necessitated frequent reorganisations of classes. Between 1932 and 1935, the Senior Department also took intermediate pupils. A temporary clinic was opened at Southey Green Council School on the 12th September 1938.

On 1st June 1945, the Junior Mixed Department was separated into a Junior Department and an Infants Department under separate headteachers. A new classroom was also opened at this time. In 1948 new classrooms were opened to meet the need for additional accommodation consequent on the raising of the school leaving age. In February 1958, the Southey Green meals centre was closed because of the opening of new kitchens in various schools. In the late 1960s, remodelling and extensions were undertaken at Southey Green School which included the building of a new dining kitchen, which was opened in January 1968.

The Secondary School was closed in the summer of 1969 and the building was then occupied by the newly designated Southey Green Middle School. The Infants School became a First School. In the mid 1970s a nursery was opened at Southey Green First School.
