Description | Many of the early items in this series have been used to deduce genealogies. These charters and deeds were inspected by T.W. Hall, who arranged them in date order and accordingly numbered them 1-149. Numbers 1-75 were calendared in T.W. Hall, 'A Catalogue of the Ancient Charters belonging to the Twelve Capital Burgesses' (1913) (pp.1-92); this calendar contains some inaccuracies, and an amended copy (formerly in the Archives searchroom) is included in this collection (ref. CB/2/150). Principally, it should be noted that: (item 42) is of 1379 not 1329; (item 56) is of 1432, not 1441; and (item 57) is of 1349, not 1449. Numbers 76-149 are mainly leases by the Burgesses, mainly for terms of 21 years, 1555-1649/50 and 1696. |
