AdminHistory | South Kirkby Colliery was situated between Doncaster and Wakefield. It was sunk by the South Ferryhill and Rosedale Iron Company of County Durham. Sinking of two shafts began in 1876 and the Barnsley seam was reached in 1878.
The colliery was later owned by the South Kirkby, Featherstone and Hemsworth Collieries Limited who worked the concern until nationalisation in 1947. |
