TitleKiveton Park Coal Company Limited
AdminHistoryThe Kiveton Park Coal Company formed in Mar 1864. In 1896 the company was incorporated as a limited liability company, becoming Kiveton Park Coal Company Limited. Sinking of the Kiveton Park Pits commenced in 1866. Two shafts were sunk which reached the Barnsley seam in 1867. These were deepened in c.1885 to the Thorncliffe and Silkstone seams. The Thorncliffe seam was worked to produce coking coal but was abandoned as unprofitable.

By the mid-1890s there were 32 beehive ovens at Kiveton Park.

The colliery began manufacturing its own gas in 1870 and continued production until 1926.

In 1874-1875 two shafts were sunk to the Barnsley seam at West Kiveton (1.25 miles west of Kiveton Park). Coal from the Barnsley seam, and later the High Hazels seam, was raised at West Kiveton shafts until 1897. The workings in West Kiveton were abandoned in 1931 and the shafts filled.

Kiveton Park Colliery amalgamated with Sherwood Colliery, Nottinghamshire in 1928.

Kiveton Park Coal Company Limited was acquired United Steel Companies Limited (USC) in 1944. USC worked the colliery until nationalisation in 1947.
