TitleFragments of Manuscript Books
Description(a) Fragment of a Manuscript Book vellum, with sixty imperfect lines of writing on each side. The handwriting is a neat and clear minuscule, and the letters are of an angular type. It appears to be of the late fourteenth century. The argument concerns the nature of angels.

(b) Fragment of a Manuscript Book, vellum, with fifteen lines in each of two columns on both sides. The handwriting is clear and moderately rounded, and is probably of the fourteenth century. The sinfulness of certain actions is discussed.

Note by Professor Neil Ker (1908-1982), scholar of Anglo-Saxon literature, author of 'Medieval manuscripts in British Libraries': (a) c.1300. A strip from, the Pars Prima of the Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas. Question CVI; (b) A strip, xiiith century, from a manuscript of the Sentences of Peter Lombard. The remaining bit is from Book S, distinction 44.

Professor Ker also noted 'It looks rather as if all this bundle of binding fragments [JC/14/28-35], which came from the wrappers of the late 16th century, are archidiconal records of Lincoln Cathedral. At least that is certainly the origin of JC/14/28 (Wills proved in the Archdeaconry of Stowe) and JC/14/31 was also the wrapper of a volume of wills proved. JC/14/29 bears a date 1596.
