In his Reminiscences of Old Sheffield (1875), Robert Eadon Leader writes: 'Steadfast to their old localities in Snow hill are Richard Groves and Sons, perhaps the oldest saw manufacturers in the town...' White's Directory of Sheffield (1879) lists the firm as manufacturers of patent machine-ground circular saws, steel of every description, files, saws and edge tools at the Beehive Works, Snow Lane and Allen Street. Advertisements in trade directories show their corporate mark (trademark) was USE.
