Description | Richard Roulston of Aston acquired the property as follows:
1. Messuage in Netherthorpe where Thomas Ramskarr lived and cottages, 6 acres of land etc., from said Thomas Ramskarr, for £65, 15 Jun 1661.
2. Three lands of arable in Beggarfield and five lands in Nichowood field for “good causes”, from Conyers Darcy, esq., 28 Oct 1676 (2 deeds).
Richard Roulston’s son Joshua made an exchange of some of the land with the earl of Holdernesse (1 Jun 1704) and was granted letters of administration of his father’s goods, 12 Jul 1717. Prudence Osborne, widow (daughter and heir at law of Joshua Roulston) mortgaged the property to Francis Sitwell in 1750 and 1753 and it was sold in Dec 1760 to John Whitehead of Aston who also appears to have acquired the term of years. A further exchange with the Earl of Holderness was made in 1769. John Whitehead of Aston left, by his will of 1806, certain property at Netherthorpe for life to Mary Barlow and then all his real and personal estate to Charles Morton of Aughton. Robert Morton, son of Charles, made an exchange of the whole property for other property in Aston in 1812, with the trustees of Mrs Verelst and Harry Verelst. In 1819, he assigned the remainder of the term of Mrs Osborne’s mortgage to attend the inheritance. |
