TitleBundle of deeds relating to the two manors of Handsworth and Highfield
DescriptionThey were conveyed by the Earl of Shrewsbury and others to Henry Howard of Norfolk by a deed of 13 June, 1663 and then mortgaged by him to Mountjoy, Earl of Newport. Apparently, parcels of land within the manor were conveyed to numerous purchasers because, although there is no conveyance among these deeds, there is a receipt for purchase money of 26 September, 1676. A deed of 10 October, 1676 conveys Handsworth Park to John Garland of Todwick, John Wingfield of Hasleburrow, Thomas Burley of Grenhill and Francis Moore of Chesterfield as a collateral security against claims arising under various settlements.
