AdminHistory | The Sheffield Aid to Refugees Council was established in 1952 following a meeting convened by the Bishop of Sheffield 'to discuss how Christian people in the city could help relieve the distress among refugees in Europe, the Middle East and elsewhere’. From that meeting an Executive Committee was established. It comprised representatives from the United Nations Association, the Inter Church Aid Committee, the Business and Professional Women’s Club and the United Nations District Association, and others.
From these surviving minutes it would appear the committee focused on helping refugees from the Korean War and the suppression of the Hungarian Uprising. |
