| AdminHistory | Bruce Smith was the son of Alfred Bruce, chemist and optician of Sheffield and Mexborough. Bruce started study for a medical career but this was interrupted by wartime served in RAMC [Royal Army Medical Corps), mainly in India (he attained the rank of sergeant and served from Dec 1940 to Jul 1946. The sudden death of his father in 1946 prevented his taking up further immediate study, although he later took a degree as an external student of the University of London. |
