AdminHistoryJohn Hellen worked at Davy United for 50 years from 1915 until his retirement in 1965.

He started work as a general storekeeper's boy at Park Iron Works and then took up an apprenticeship as a engineer fitter. He later joined the Durham light Infantry as the First World War was coming to an end, being demobilised in 1920 and returning to Park Iron Works.

During the economic downturn in the early 1920s Hellen spent two and a half years unemployed, before rejoining Park Iron Works. He served on contracts across Britain and also spent time in India.
