AdminHistoryA Medical School was established by Hall Overend and his son, Wilson Overend, in 1828; another one was established in the same year by Dr Arnold Knight. In 1835 the former was sacked by a mob amid allegations of grave-robbing. Sheffield Medical Institution, under Dr Knight, was opened in Surrey Street in 1829, Dr Charles Fox Favell acting as the secretary. The name was changed to the Sheffield School of Medicine in 1868. New premises in Leopold Street, opposite Firth College, were opened in 1888, and from 1897 it became part of University College, Sheffield, from 1905 the University of Sheffield. In 2000 it was retitled as the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
