AdminHistorySir Ronald Matthews (fl 1908 - 1948) joined the Board of Sheffield Royal Infirmary in c. 1908, and was appointed chairman in 1924. Fred Osborn joined the Board of Sheffield Royal Hospital in 1912, and was appointed chairman in 1924. They were jointly responsible for the amalgamation of the Royal Infirmary and the Royal Hospital in 1939 and served as chairman of the Court of Management of the Royal Sheffield Infirmary and Hospital. Under their leadership that establishment became the largest voluntary provincial teaching hospital.
