DescriptionService register or obligation book predominantly for male clerks, but also chief attendants and nurses, dispensers, storekeepers, chaplains, housekeepers, masseurs and medical officers.

Gives employee's date of birth, age, marital status, and signature to the obligation, date of engagement and to what rank (position), and date of leaving; with summary of salary and superannuation deductions as long as employee remained (latest date c.1944).

Added at front are salary and superannuation summaries for employees already in post in 1910, copied from a previous [not now surviving] obligation book; these entries include date of appointment (earliest 1873) and date of leaving.

From mid-1915 the wording of the obligation is amended to read 'hospital' instead of 'asylum'.
