TitleSt Paul's Methodist Church, Woodhouse (formerly Handsworth Woodhouse United Methodist Free Church)
AdminHistoryThe church was formed in 1850 when, according to William J. Letall, "The Wesleyan reformers separated from the Wesleyan Conference Connection in Woodhouse and held meetings in David Ward's corn chamber, now the site of the Methodist Free Church meeting house, the early reformers merging into the Free Church body".

In 1862, the old chapel in Hoyland Lane (which later became a printing works) was erected on the site of the old corn chamber, marking the first step to a separate building for worship. The growing congregation soon outgrew the chapel in Hoyland Lane and a new church and school buildings were erected in Chapel Street, Woodhouse, on a site given by Mr George Widdowson, one of the original trustees (with the foundation stones laid on 28 Oct 1889). The first sermon in the new chapel was preached on 1st October 1890. The cost of the building (exclusive of land) was £1,477. The church was built to accommodate 370 worshippers and the school buildings 230 scholars.

To meet the needs of a growing Sunday School, an extension to the premises was built in 1906. It appears that Woodhouse had a Sunday School Union (as far back as 1865) comprising of three Sunday Schools in the village: Woodhouse Wesleyan, Woodhouse United Free Schurch and the Congregationalists).

In June 1987, St Paul’s United Methodist Church merged with the neighbouring Woodhouse Wesleyan Methodist Church and the combined church was known as Woodhouse Trinity Methodist Church (based in the old Wesleyan Church building). The St Paul’s Church building was subsequently closed.

The church was located on Chapel Street and was formerly part of the Surrey Street Methodist Circuit in Sheffield. It was later part of the Norfolk Methodist Circuit and later the Sheffield East Circuit.
