Description | <head>Scope and Content</head><p>Ralph Buxton of Grinndon (co. Stafford), yeoman, to Richard Buxton the younger of Grinndon, brother to Ralph. The moiety of all that third part of the parsonage and rectory of Castleton and moiety of the third part of all lands, tithes, portions, oblations etc. (excepting such exceptions as are named in an indenture to George Winnsley, recited); for £166 13s. 4d. during the remainder of the term of 99 years).</p><p>The following leases are recited:-</p><p>1. 3 April, 1547. The Bishop of Chester to George Winnesley of Chester, Chancellor to the Bishop. The Rectory and Parsonage of Castleton with all appurtenances etc., which the late Abbot and Convent of Vale Royal (co. Chester) held (excepting one third part) for ninety nine years from the expiration of a lease made to Sir Anthony Fitzherbert, Thomas Fitzherbert and John Fitzherbert his sons for 70 years (not recited).</p><p>2. 6 June, 1622. The Marquis of Newcastle (to whom the lease had come by various assignments by the title of Viscount Mansfield), to Thurstan Browne of a full third part in three parts to be divided, of the said rectory and Parsonage.</p><p>3. 12 Sept, 1648. Thurstan Browne of Hilsdale (co. Staffs) to Samuel Buxton, of the said third part.</p><p>4. 20 Dec. 1648. Samuel Buxton to Ralph Buxton, of the said third part.</p> |
