AdminHistory | The records have been catalogued in a chronological arrangement to enable the user to understand the context of the records when browsing. The original order of the individual records has been maintained. No appraisal or weeding of documents has been undertaken by Sheffield Archive following the deposit. |
Description | The majority of the records are those which were collated by West Midlands Police from various parties during their investigations (Witness Statements, Questionnaires, Actions, Messages, and Deceased Evidence Files etc.). These were subsequently transferred to South Yorkshire Police when their investigations concluded. Some of the records in POL/25 are original records which were not considered relevant by West Midlands Police and it was intended that these records would be returned to the originating organisations (Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Eastwood and Partners etc.) but they never were. Other records in this collection were created by South Yorkshire Police as part of their internal investigations and responses, general record keeping and working files. |
CustodialHistory | On the abolition of South Yorkshire County Council on 31 March 1986, Sheffield Archives took over responsibility for managing county records. This collection forms part of the County Collections, administered by Sheffield on behalf of the four South Yorkshire councils. South Yorkshire Police deposited the collection with Sheffield Archive in 2007, with further accruals in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Until then, the records were held with South Yorkshire in a secure store at Snig Hill Headquarters. |
