Description | South Yorkshire Police conducted a separate investigation to review the actions of Chief Superintendent David Duckenfield and Superintendent Bernard Murray to determine if there was evidence of negligence. The investigation was halted when Duckenfield was retired from the police service on medical grounds, and therefore no longer bound by internal disciplinary action. Consequently a decision was made to close the investigation because to pursue a case against Murray might have implicated sole responsibility for the tragedy.
The records in this series are largely correspondence and notes of Solicitors regarding legal advice (POL/19/1), Papers related to the charges against Duckenfield and Murray (POL/19/2) and evidence to support those charges (POL/19/3), administrative papers (POL/19/4), and assorted material from the South Yorkshire Police Discipline department (POL/19/5) |
