Description | Following the Disaster there was an initial call from West Midlands Police for people who were at the match or involved with the Disaster to come forward. A large number of people were identified to be interviewed for an official statement.
These statements were taken by West Midlands Police on official CJA headed paper showing that the statement was given under section 9 of the Criminal Justice Act (1967).
They came from a wide variety of sources from supporters who attended the match, health professionals who assisted the injured and deceased, family members who identified the deceased and emergency services personnel.
Some organisations such as South Yorkshire Police and the South Yorkshire Metropolitan Ambulance Service supplied their own witness statements to West Midlands Police via their solicitors. These were not produced on official CJA headed statement paper initially but transferred at a later date.
In some cases there are supplementary statements where an interviewee has additional information to add.
A typed index to the Witness Statements can be found at POL/9/5/14 |
