Description | Most of the documents in this series are those which were created during the Inquiry such as correspondence from Assistant Chief Constable Mervyn Jones, West Midlands Police, to various parties, Questionnaires and plans showing locations of the deceased. A large number of the documents are those which were received by the Investigation Team such as letters from members of the public offering their comment on the Disaster or letters from people who attended the match and recounting their experience.
This series also includes copies of documents which were gathered as evidence such as South Yorkshire Police documents, Operational Orders, Briefing Notes, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club instructions for match day staff, June 1988 and a copy of City of Sheffield Scheme for Major Peacetime Emergencies, October 1987.
Each document was given a D reference number and listed on HOLMES. On the front of each document an 'Other Document Form' is attached, giving the title of the document, the date and time it was raised. Some include instructions from the receiver and the numbers of actions which were raised out of the document.
The series is arranged by a D number D1-3970, given by West Midlands Police.
