AdminHistory | The rector of Eckington obtained a licence from the Bishop of Southwell in 1849 to hold services in the Endowed School at Mosborough, but is was not until 1877 (when Mosborough was designated a conventional district of the parish of Eckington) that baptisms were also allowed there.
A parsonage house was built on glebe land in 1872 and the foundation stone of the church laid in 1886. The church was consecrated on 21 July 1887, more than half the cost of building having been contributed by the rector of Eckington, Mr Estcourt, and the rest raised by subscriptions.
Mosborough eventually became a separate parish in 1929 (although application had been made as early as 1894). Following parish reorganisation in 1973 - 1974, the parish of St Mark's, Mosborough was transferred to the Diocese of Sheffield from the Diocese of Derby.
St Mark's Church is situated on the High Street, Mosborough and is in the Deanery of Attercliffe. |
