AdminHistory | St John the Evangelist, Hemsworth began as a daughter church to St James, Norton, with areas taken out of the parishes of Christ Church, Gleadless, Heeley, Ridgeway and St Paul, Arbourthorne. The first stage of the church building, which incorporated a parish hall, was dedicated on 1st December 1960 and was located at the corner of Blackstock Close and Blackstock Road. The parish of Gleadless Valley was created in 1974, combining the ministries of St John and of Holy Cross Church, Rollestone. The church closed c. 2000 with the final service being held on 14th February 1999. The church was in the Attercliffe Deanery. |
