Description | These papers principally relate to the school building rather than the activity of the school.
It appears that the boys' school originally belonged to Miss Mary Roberts and was dated from 1827 (being rebuilt in 1851). In 1873 the premises were enlarged.
The school closed in 1908 and the parish assumed ownership of the building - this was later subject to a legal case, probably at the point that the building was identified as a potential parish hall. In 1938 the building known as the boys' school was derelict, but was improved and operated as a fire station during the second world war. The girls' school building was always used as a sunday school. In 1948 the parish was informed that if they wished to use the buildings they would have to buy them. These papers relate to the time of the legal dispute and the appeal for the parish hall project. |
